本研究の目的は、ヒトにおいて日常的にみられる「外界のリズムに自己の運動リズムが引き込まれる現象」を非ヒト霊長類において再現し、その神経メカニズムを探ることである。2022年度は、これまでに本研究のために開発した運動課題によって動物の運動の引き込み現象が観察できることをSociety for Neuroscience 2022においてEnhancement of rhythmic motion entrainment by social contexts in the macaqueというタイトルでポスター発表をした。この中では、自発的な速度でレバーを往復させる運動を訓練したサルに対し、被験サルの運動よりも①速い②同等③遅い運動をするサルの動画を実物大で提示して、一緒に往復運動を行わせた。被験サルに与えられる報酬は動画と関連させず、被験サル本人の運動に対してのみ支払われた。被験サルは課題運動中に、動画の中のレバー周辺に視線を置くことを求められた。このような環境においては、被験サルの運動は、動画のサルの運動の速さにつられて速度を変調させることが示された。同様に、実物大のレバーのみが同様の3種類の速さで動く動画を提示しても、被験サルの運動は動画とともに変調した。しかし、その効果はサルの動画より小さかったことから、本効果はどんな視覚刺激でも同じわけではなく、「他のサルと同じ運動課題を行う」という社会的な文脈が強く影響することが示された。引き込み現象と社会性の形成との関連が論じられる中、本研究で示されたマカクザルの引き込み現象は、その生起メカニズムを探るための大きな一歩である。
