项目摘要

本研究は、希少な芸能形態である花街を対象とする。花街の芸能は、口伝による継承で秘儀的特性を持つため、公的記録は非常に少ない。そのため、芸能が披露される場の参与観察や、芸妓をはじめ当事者への聞き取りによる「語り」と、芸能や音楽を採集して「楽譜化」する方法で、多様な事例収集を計画する。調査は全国各地の花街に及び、芸妓が披露する芸能の固有性や音楽性を明確にすることを目的とする。本研究の意義は、前述の目的と共にCOVID-19感染拡大以降から現在に至るまでの花街と芸能の変容・窮状についても着目することである。コロナ禍以降、花街の慣習や宴席、芸能の披露形態、舞踊公演の開催方法は打撃を受けつつも、少しずつ新たな実施形態の誕生や再開の兆しも見られたことは、大きな転換でもあった。それに伴い、コロナ禍での実施が厳しかったフィールドワーク調査も、徐々に着手が可能ともなった。ここまでの変動を経た今年度は、舞踊公演や行事及び伴う稽古を一定期間観察するとともに、時には自ら当事者より芸の指導を受けるなど、深く当事者の営みに関わる参与観察を行った。また、インタビュー調査では、幅広い年齢層の芸妓や当事者の装飾を担う職人・店舗経営者、着付師、料亭経営者、花街を支える自治組織などの関係者を対象に、多様な語りの収集を実施した。一方で、過去に披露された花街の芸能について、放送局や公的機関保存の記録映像より、楽譜化や現行の芸能との比較検討など、可視化された資料としての分析も試みた。このように、花街と芸妓を取り巻く現状と諸問題、芸を磨く当事者の方向性や意図の語りと、補完する資料的・音楽的情報の収集と分析の両者を行った。加えてコロナ禍での花街の形態の変化や、担い手の高齢化・減少等の諸問題も存在するため、本研究を花街史・芸能史として学術面に限らず、現状と対応策の発信においても社会的意義のある研究としても展開させる。
