Comparative Studies of Social Structure of Middle-size City in Japan

本研究的目的是：(1)通过比较不同城市的社会结构和社区运动过程，为日本中型城市的社会学研究做出贡献；(2)利用计算机开发日本城市数据信息检索系统，并对城市结构进行统计分析。在这些目标下，研究者进行了神户、酒井和名古屋的实地调查和比较研究。研究人员还对日本105个城市进行了统计因素分析。通过这些研究，得出以下结论：每个城市的特征主要是由该城市的工业化程度决定的。但与此同时，每个城市都有自己的历史发展，基于历史事件的因素也改变了每个城市的特征。

The objectives of this study are (1) to contribute to the sociological studies of middle-size city in Japan by comparing social structures and process of community movements of various cities, and (2) to develop the information retrieval system of city data in Japan by using computer and to do a statistical analysis on structures of cities. Under these objectives investigators conducted field researches and comparative studies of Kobe, Sakai and Nagoya. Also investigators did a statistical factor analysis of 105 cities in Japan.Through these studies, the following conclusion attained:Each city's characteristics is primarily decided by the degree of industrialization of that city. However, at the same time, each city has its own historical development, and the factors based on the historical events have modified each city's characteristics.
