The present research result shows that cyclic poly(ethylene glycol)(c-PEG) tends to yield smaller and narrowly dispersed AgNPs when employed during the Tollens synthesis in comparison with linear PEG, where smaller and narrowly dispersed metal nanoparticles are desired in various applications. Furthermore, the AgNPs with c-PEG exhibited superior stabilizing properties against NaCl despite the smaller size. These results clearly indicate the cyclized polymers endow AgNPs with the superior stability compared with the linear counterparts. The enhanced colloidal stability through the use of c-PEG would enable applications in biological systems where its high salt resistance can be exploited. It is proved that c-PEG exhibits superior dispersion stabilization to metal nanoparticles.
