1) Diagnostic imaging for conjecture of prognosis in dental implant treatmentWe established a method to measure the edentulous alveolar process on reformatted CT images for conjecture of prognosis in dental implant treatment. CT images of 83 patients (34 males and 49 females) were examined. The results were as follows ;The angle of inclination of the edentulous alveolar process was similar in the central and lateral incisor regions, but that in the canine region was larger. The height and width in the edentulous alveolar process of the central incisor region were large. The measurement values of the angle of inclination, height and which in the edentulous alveolar process of the central incisor region are able to become the factors for the conjecture of prognosis.2) Diagnostic imaging for assessment of prognosis in dental implant treatmentWe assessed the usefulness of cross-sectional tomography using a panoramic in postoperative diagnostic imaging of dental implants.In the site of a total of 15 dental implants, panoramic radiography and cross-sectional radiography were performed, and we evaluated the bone change surrounding the dental implant in each radiograph. The results were as follows ;Bone change was seen in 7 of 15 sites on panoramic radiography. On cross-sectional tomograms, bone change could be evaluated bucco-lingually. Moreover, the bone change was seen only on cross-sectional tomography in two dental implant sites. Although the image of objective dental implants on cross-sectional tomography were superimposed obstructive shadows from the neighboring dental implants in 12 of 15 dental implant sites, they did not seriously disturb the diagnoses.We believe the cross-sectional tomography using a panoramic machine is useful in diagnostic imaging for assessment of prognosis of dental implant treatment.
