our survey around Okayama and Yamaguchi prefectureit has been that civil engineering stone structureswhich can be seen characteristically in granite area surround Setouchi Sea，were classified mainly into two type One是“rolled stone structures”which were constructedbetween the early in the Edo period and the 2 D1nd World Warand the other is "stone beam structures" which were mostly constructed in the Edo period.The rolledstone structures used in the rivers as levees for boat, spur dikes，training jetties and overflow weirs也可以使用在harbors as breakwaters.虽然他们已经建立了widely throughoutjapan,他们大多是Setouchi and Kyusyu districts.他们是rather tiny and lessimportant from the技术category，but their tender and smooth figures are quite attractive from the viewpoint they are resistless toany natural force，which was the common way of life of the former Japan.The stone beam structures were used in thereclaimed area as sluicesbeam bridges and drawbridges.他们只在granite area except for the rare constructedcase in the tuff area in Kyusyu.
