令和４年度の主な研究活動として、外国人留学生と地域方言に関わる先行研究の調査、留学生へのインタビュー調査、調査結果のデータ化・分析方法の再検討を行った。【先行研究調査】本研究遂行のための基礎調査として、論文検索エンジンや関連学会資料の検索による先行研究調査、国立国会図書館での２回の文献調査・収集を行った。これにより、過去に行われた留学生を対象とする地域方言関連の調査研究、教育実践に関する資料を幅広く収集した。合わせて国外での日本語地域方言の教育実践や、技能実習生・永住者といった別の在留資格を持つ外国人を対象とした調査研究についても広く情報を得た。　【留学生への調査】地方大学に在籍経験のある元留学生への調査（予備／本調査：インタビュー形式）を実施した。調査で得られたデータを元に、成果発表に向けた結果の質的分析、令和５年度も継続する調査に向け、調査項目の精査・修正を行っている。　【調査結果のデータ化・分析方法の再検討】本研究では当初、インタビュー調査結果のデータ化・翻訳作業を謝金によるアルバイト雇用で実施する予定であった。しかし先行研究調査を通して、質的研究に有用な支援ソフトや文字起こしツールの知見を得ることができたため、利便性の高いこれらのツールを利用する方向で試用、検討を行った。　【その他】国内学会の研究大会に参加し、日本語学習者と日本語バリエーションを研究対象とする他機関研究者らと意見交換し、情報収集の機会を得た。令和４年度は上記のような研究活動を通して、本研究課題の柱となる、留学生教育、日本語教育において地域方言をどのように示し扱うかについて検討するための基盤整備を行った。
