项目摘要

初年度の2022年度は、(a)「既存のGISベースの「GIS地名辞書」として、国がオープンデータとして提供する地名・住所のGISデータは、大字・町丁目レベルと街区レベルの位置参照情報（国土交通省）、電子国土基本図（地名情報）と住居表示住所（国土地理院）、及び国勢調査小地域（町丁・字等別）境界データ（総務省統計局）の（統計GIS）境界データなどを整備した。また、ゼンリンの住宅地図やNTT電話帳に含まれる全国の住所データの整備を、国勢調査の小地域統計の住所データと合わせて、GISデータベース化することを試みている。そして、(b)過去の地名の「GIS地名辞書」の開発として、旧版地形図である外邦図からの地名のAIによる抽出を、英国Alan Turing InstituteのDr. Katie McDonoug博士と米国Minnesota UniversityのYao-Yi Chiang博士らが取り組んでいるプロジェクトに参加し、Machines Reading Maps であるMapKuratorを用いて、実験的に行った。日本語の地名抽出のためのトレーニングデータを得るために、戦中から戦後にかけて、米国CIAが作成した日本の地形図の英語版を英国University College London地理学部のマップライブラリで確認し、そのデジタル化を開始した。さらに、英国における地名データベースに関す調査を実施した。本研究に関わる地名をめぐる課題として、2022年12月18日に開催された、日本学術会議公開シンポジウム「地名標準化の現状と課題：地名データベースの構築と地名標準化機関の設置に向けて」を共催した。また、Harvard大学で開催された、The North American Coordinating Council on Japanese Library ResourcesとTools of the Trade: The Way Forwardの2つの会議に参加し、これまでの研究生を発表するとともに、関連研究者との意見交換を行った。
