本研究のベースとなる活動は、2022年4月から各小学校エリアに存在する母親支援グループも対象に含め、小学校と協働してモリンガと野菜農園の運営管理を行っている。そして現在は週2回、モリンガ葉・粉末が入った学校給食を提供している。母親支援グループも対象に活動を進めることで、年間を通してモリンガ学校給食の確実な提供と、地域の女性や母親に食と栄養そしてモリンガについての知識が普及し、各家庭でもモリンガ葉を使った料理が提供されるしくみ作りを目標にしている。本研究の目的は、①モリンガと取り組む持続可能な栄養改善のしくみ作りの活動が、児童の栄養状態改善に効果があるか、②学校だけではなく母親支援グループも巻き込むことで、母親や地域女性の栄養意識を高める波及効果が得られるかを検証することである。2022年9月と2023年3月にシエラレオネを訪れ、本研究の各目的に対して以下の調査を実施した。研究目的①に関しては、モリンガ葉・粉末を学校給食に提供している2ヶ所の小学校と提供していない2か所の小学校で、地元NGOと教員のサポートのもと、各小学校でランダムに1年生から4年生の各学年の児童を男女別に各25名選び身体測定を実施した。最終的には、提供している2か所の小学校で計411名、提供していない2か所の小学校で計382名に身体測定を行い、3月渡航時にも同じ児童を対象に実施した。今後も半年ごとに身体測定を実施し、WHOのBMI for age for 5-19 years old にあてはめ、「痩せ過ぎ」「痩せ気味」「普通」の児童の割合を経時的にみていく。研究目的②に関しては、モリンガ葉・粉末を学校給食に提供している2か所の児童母親や保護者計69名を対象に、インタビュー調査（自宅での食事内容や回数、親の職業と教育レベル、そしてモリンガの知識や健康意識に関する項目など）を実施した。
