日本における在留外国人数は増加の一途をたどり、日本で出産する外国人数の増加が予想されている。日本の周産期医療は世界のトップレベルにもかかわらず、在留外国人の周産期死亡率などは日本人に比して高いことが明らかにされている。研究代表者は、在留外国人妊産婦が求める妊産婦主体の看護ケアを導入することが、外国人母子保健サービス向上のための有効な解決策になり得ると着想した。本研究では、在留外国人への周産期看護の現状と課題を外国人妊産婦の視点から明らかにする。ついで助産師への調査を行い、ケア提供者の視点から周産期看護ケアの現状と課題を明らかにする。双方の視点からの調査結果をもとに外国人妊産婦へのグローバル周産期看護ケアの提言としてまとめる。令和４年度は、研究の初年度であり、研究者の所属する大学の生命倫理審査の承認を得て、日本で妊娠・出産経験のある在留外国人女性を対象とし、Vignettes methods（特定の状況下での対象者の行動特性を明らかにする方法）を用いてインタビュー調査を開始した。Vignettesは妊娠期、分娩期、産褥期の短い場面を設定し、シナリオを作成した。シナリオの作成は複数の研究者で行い、プレテスト後に使用した。インタビューの前に、対象者に社会的情報、医学的情報などのアンケート調査を実施した。対象者のリクルートは、語学学校や外国人支援機関に依頼し、紹介していただいたり、スノーボールサンプリングを行った。現在まで13名の外国人女性への調査が終了した。インタビュー調査の内容は、周産期の特定の状況を設定し、自分ならどうするか、自分の体験における周産期看護ケアに対する満足・不満足についてたずねた。
