项目摘要

本研究の中心的課題は、初期合衆国政治における党派性の観念を重視しつつ、第二次米英戦争(1812-15)以降に見られた政党政治および政治社会の変容過程を解き明かすことにある。この課題を考察するにあたって、本研究が注目してきたのが、第二次米英戦争(1812-15)以降に訪れた「好感情の時代」と呼ばれる戦後ナショナリズムの時代の思潮である。合衆国政治史において唯一、政党対立が消滅したこの時期こそが、党派性の観念および共和主義的思考様式の変容を理解するための鍵になると考えている。本年度は、従来と方向性を大きく転換し、グローバル・ヒストリーや環大西洋史といった史学研究の動向を意識しつつ、主題の前提となる史的文脈をより広い世界に求めることを心がけた。具体的には、ナポレオン戦争の世界的な影響関係という史的文脈において、合衆国の政治観念の変容を理解しなおすという作業である。研究の進展過程をまとめ、平成26年5月にお茶の水政治研究会(於・日本大学法学部)において建国史と合衆国の主権に関する口頭発表を実施した。さらに、同年6月には、アメリカ学会年次大会(於・沖縄コンベンションセンター)にて、合衆国第22議会議事録を主たる根拠として、南北戦争以前の主権観念を考察する口頭発表をおこなった。学会報告に際して、国内諸大学の初期アメリカ史研究者より、今後の研究に繋がる有益な講評を多数頂戴した。研究成果の発表として、学会報告を敷衍する形で19世紀前半の主権観念を考察する論文を『アメリカ太平洋研究』(東京大学)に投稿中である。さらに、政治指導者の書簡を主な史料として、無効宣言論争における妥協関税法案の成立過程を明らかにする論文を執筆する予定である。今後の方針としては、欧州諸国での革命と君主政体をめぐる論争が合衆国内の政治社会に与えた影響に注目し、史料および文献の蒐集を進める予定である。

The central theme of this study is to pay attention to the partisan ideology of the early United States politics, and to understand the process of political and social transformation from the Second American War (1812-15) to the decline of party politics. While examining this topic, this study has attracted much attention. The "era of good feelings" since the second American-British War (1812-15) has been called the "era of good feelings" and the current trend of thought in the future. The main ideas before the North-South War were investigated. During the reporting period, most of the scholars who studied the history of Chinese universities in the early stage and made useful comments on the future research were highly regarded. The future policy, the revolution and the monarchy in Europe, the political and social debate in the United States, the attention, the collection of historical materials and the advance of the predetermined period.
