项目摘要

本年度においては、二つの方向性から西谷哲学を検証した。まず一つ目は、西谷と西田幾多郎との関係からである。西谷は思想的に西田から大きな影響を受けた。そこで西谷の西田哲学理解について検討した。その構成をみると、西谷の西田哲学理解には『善の研究』（1911）に関するものが多く、西田哲学の体系的変遷についての関心が薄い。そうなったのには、ニヒリズムという現代における精神的病と対峙した西谷にとって、西田哲学の源は、西谷哲学の源となりうる可能性を秘めていたからである。西谷の西田哲学理解には、西谷の問題関心が反映されているのである。このように、西田哲学から西谷を理解することによって、西谷の立脚点を改めて確認することができた。本件については、西田哲学会において発表した。二つ目は、悪の問題である。西谷の論文「悪の問題」（1952）から、西谷の悪理解について検証した。「悪の問題」において、西谷はカントの根源悪論批判を通して、自らの悪の問題に対する基本理解を示した。西谷は悪の自覚を手がかりに、自己の根源へと迫ろうとした。これは、現代において特別な位置を与えられている「生命」が傷を負い得る可能性のもとに成立し、傷を思索するという仕方でしか生命を語れないとする宗教哲学のあり方である。悪への自由において、端的に生きることが宗教的意義をもち得る。西谷は悪の問題を通して理性の限界を問うた上で、改めて宗教のあるべき立場を示した。西谷は悪を通して哲学の限界を問い直すとともに、宗教の意義を論究したといえるのである。本件については、宗教哲学研究室紀要で発表した。以上のように、西田と西谷の関係、そして悪の問題を通して、前期における西谷の思想的基盤を理解した。これらの試みよって、中期以降の西谷の問題関心の変容を理解する足場が固まったといえるだろう。
