项目摘要

本年度は、これまでのフィールドワークで得られたデータをもとに投稿論文及び博士論文を作成することに従事した。本年度の課題と成果は次の３点である。（１）女性行者の乞食実践の研究：前年度に引き続き、北インド・ハリドワールで暮らす女性行者の乞食実践について研究を行った。乞食実践の中でも、行者を対象とした招待食に着目し、贈与を通じて形成される社会的ネットワークについて考察した。それによって、男性行者が贈与を通じて地位や威信をはかろうとするのに対し、女性行者は他者への愛や配慮を重視するという贈与のモラルの差異が認められること、及び女性行者のあいだには贈与を通じて互酬性と純粋贈与の側面を併せ持つ両義的な関係性が形成されていることを明らかにした。（２）男女の行者カップルの研究：前年度に引き続き、女性行者と男性パートナーとの関係について研究を行った。禁欲主義イデオロギーのもとでは、女性は男性行者から忌避される一方で、一部の女性行者たちは男性パートナーと師弟関係を結んで同居生活を営んでいる。そうした現象に着目した本研究は、①師弟関係を結ぶことで、男女の行者カップルが禁欲主義の枠組みを維持しつつ規範にとらわれない多様な関係性を生きていること、②性的禁欲や独身を重視する男性中心の禁欲主義に対して、女性行者は奉仕実践を通じた情緒の制御を重視していることの２点を明らかにした。（３）上述した２点に加え、本研究は、女性行者の中でも、在家者でもなく出家者でもない「家住行者」と呼ばれる人びとに焦点を当てて、彼女たちの営む乞食、贈与交換、家事労働などの生業活動に着目し、地域社会における世捨ての実践について考察した。それによって、女性行者たちは制度の逸脱者として周縁化されたわけではなく、あえて「家住行者」という中間領域にとどまることで、規範にとらわれない生き方を送ろうと模索していることを、博士論文としてまとめた。
