Pyrocore are leading pioneers in pyrolysis of glass-fibre (GF) waste streams. This project seeks to develop a first-of-a-kind solution to recover GF that are mechanically strong enough for reuse in wind turbine blade applications. No commercial solution to recover glass-fibre exists and as such this project seeks to establish a leading waste recovery solution to support blade waste management companies (e.g. Veolia) and the manufacturers (e.g. Vestas). To do so, Pyrocore will build on its proof-of-concept demonstrator to investigate the relationship between temperature, oxidation conditions, and material properties. Our solution could enable 75,000 Tonnes of end-of-life GF waste produced each year in the UK, to be recovered and reused. This will make blades cheaper to manufacture and less costly to decommission, positively benefiting the UK taxpayer from cheaper energy costs and lower environmental impacts.
