Symbiotec Ltd, trading as The Magical Mushroom Company (MMC) produces Mushroom Packaging(r) (MP) by combining mycelium with agricultural waste to grow protective packaging and provide an alternative to hard-to-recycle expanded polystyrene (EPS) and other fossil-fuel-based protective foams. The purpose of this project is speed up the automation of a key process step to drive efficiencies in the process, reduce cost and improve our quality. This critical to creating price party compared to polystyrene and support wider scale adoption.This project will be focusing on the most important and manual part of the Mushroom Packaging growing process and build on successful proof of concept work to fully automate the process for how we fill our grow moulds. Removing the manual work will allow our talented team to focus on quality control and more value add tasks, while allowing the advanced automated systems to scale at the level required to meet and accelerate the demand in Mushroom Packaging.Our project is focused on the specific challenge themes for:* Advanced materials and manufacturing* AI, digital and advanced computing* Robotics and smart machinesThe project demonstrates the ambition of this company to disrupt an established fossil fuel based packaging market which has had many years of manufacturing enhancement.
