项目摘要
This application is in request for support for the 7th GenTAC Thoracic Aortic Disease Summit to be held in
Paris, France on April 28, 2022. This unique meeting brings together multidisciplinary groups of clinicians,
scientists, and engineers to advance our understanding of the underlying mechanisms of thoracic aortic disease
and to improve our ability to treat those who are afflicted by these conditions, which includes both young and
old. The 7th GenTAC summit for the first time will be held in collaboration 11th International Research Symposium
on Marfan Syndrome (held April 24-27 at the same location) and is organized jointly with the Marfan Foundation.
This shared meetings provides a forum not only where ideas are shared and scrutinized, but new collaborations
are born. The biannual GenTAC conference originated in 2009 as part of the mission of the National Registry of
Genetically Triggered Thoracic Aortic Aneurysms and Related Cardiovascular Conditions (GenTAC). GenTAC
was funded by NHLBI and NIAMS and enrolled and followed over 3600 patients from 2006 through 2016. Gentac
Alliance was initiated in 2017 to harness the synergy and collaboration created by the GenTAC. The 5th GenTAC
Summit was held on Oct 6-7, 2018 at OHSU in Portland, OR and the 6th GenTAC Summit was held virtually due
to the covid-19 pandemic on October 10/11 2020.
The preliminary program for this 1-day GenTAC summit includes scientific sessions on (i) Familial Aortopathy,
(ii) Bicuspid aortic valve, (iii) Turner Syndrome, and (iv) Acute aortic syndrome. There will be synergy with the
program of the 11th Research Symposium on Marfan syndrome. We anticipate that clinicians and researcher will
attend both meetings representing different groups in the field of thoracic aortic aneurysms including Marfan
Foundation, IRAD, Montalcino Aortic Consortium, BAVCON, EDS-PCORI, Turners, and European Vascular
Network are participating. We have >80% of invited speakers are confirmed. Participation of trainees and
underrepresented minorities is especially encouraged by awarding 10 travel awards.
The meeting is hosted by Marfan Foundation and the Frankel Cardiovascular Center at the University of
Michigan. The core conference organization committee includes Dr. Marion A Hofmann Bowman and Dr. Kim
Eagle as the principal investigators of this grant, and Dr. Josephine Grima from the Marfan Foundation. This
team also successfully organized the 2020 6th GenTAC meeting. Kim A. Eagle is the Director of the Frankel
Cardiovascular Center at the University of Michigan and the chair of the NHLBI sponsored GenTAC Alliance
and he served as the study chair of the GenTAC registry from 2006-2016. Dr. Marion A Hofmann Bowman is a
Clinical Associate Professor and Executive Medical Director of the MiAorta program at the University of
Michigan. Her expertise is in clinical-translational research related to thoracic aortic disease.
