英文摘要
This project will develop and demonstrate new lightweight and novel technologies for Protean's high efficiency In-Wheel Motors (IWM), supporting and accelerating their adoption by OEM customers according to their requirements and exceeding currently available best in class standards. It will be undertaken by Protean Electric Ltd with UK suppliers, supporting and potentially accelerating IWM applications in future vehicle development programmes of predominantly European and UK based vehicle manufacturers.Over the last 15 years, Protean Electric has built a reputation as a leader in IWM technology. Its current products are in low volume production and Protean is seen by OEMs as a key partner in the delivery of electrification technology that moves us closer to NetZero. Whilst the development of these technologies has been almost exclusively in the UK, today manufacturing is based in China.IWM are set to become a key technology in the drive to launch differentiated Electric Vehicles (EVs), which facilitate the broader EV adoption required to meet CO2 targets. In order for Protean to remain at the heart of the market it has helped build for IWM, its strategy is to pivot the development and production of its family of next generation IWMs to Europe to be closer to its European and UK OEM customers, and this UK based project will allow us to accelerate our technology innovation to unlock customer application opportunities. The project will enhance the UK's leadership role in this important area of NetZero automotive technology and unleash transformational vehicle design and packaging opportunities that IWMs offer the automotive sector. It will help the UK to build strong SME led supply chains that work hand in hand with leading UK universities, improve UK productivity and global competitiveness, and help demonstrate that the UK is a key place to invest in NetZero automotive technologies.?The project could lead to significant UK exports and import substitution, as well as a range of other UK economic benefits, such as inward investment, skills development and job creation across the UK. Keeping the UK on the map as a destination for advanced next generation IWM is a key output of the project, which could lead to the UK securing part of a global opportunity worth an estimated $28bn by 2030\.
