The NHS and Emergency Services are overwhelmed, under-resourced and can't meet ever increasing demands. Science & Engineering Applications Ltd (Scienap) are working with NHS and Social Care partners to address this crisis by offering a sustainable solution centred on building resilient communities. We have developed "Care & Respond", a software application that allows members of the public to be proactive in their healthcare and in supporting the health and care of those around them. Care & Respond connects health and care professional services with an individual and their local support network (friends, family, carers, volunteers etc), sharing information with the right people at the right time to coordinate timely and appropriate care. Our approach is extremely disruptive, putting the individual in control, enabling them to push information out to relevant service providers rather than relying on services to reach out to them. Care & Respond was initially developed with modest objectives and a handful of NHS partners with specific problems to overcome. However, the scope of opportunities has grown dramatically in recent months, with increased partners and far wider applications than initially envisaged (including police and fire services, and new ambulance applications). It is becoming a very large UK wide health & wellbeing initiative, particularly as a platform that can save lives and reduce pressures on Emergency Services. With this planned expansion of services, we need to undertake person-centred and system aware design methodologies to drive our next innovation steps. With the help of this grant, we will work with external system and service design experts to re-design Care & Respond to cater for a large percentage of the UK population, providing a highly innovative (and urgent) new service supporting self help and community support. Together, we aim to: * Understand the desires, needs and motivations of people engaging with wide ranging Care & Respond services (user research).* Understand customer value against business value (service design).* Perform design sprints to design, prototype and test at speed before developing a production design (product/content design). At the end of this project Scienap will be able to evidence credibility in delivering the vision of Care & Respond in a way that builds trust, is highly engaging and intuitive for a wide range of people and that organically enables the platform to spread in the community.
