Improving shape, comfort and well-being for women who have had a partial mastectomy or breast tissue removal.

1 in 8 women are expected to receive a breast cancer diagnosis in their lifetime, but not all these will diagnoses will result in full breast removal surgery. With increasing success in the treatment of breast cancer, full breast removal is a last resort. We feel that little is understood about the impact on identity and well-being that partial breast removal has. This project will work with women who have had partial breast removal. Design-thinking and human-centred design will inform the structure of activities in workshops and remote packs. Rather than leading participants in a direction or following a set line of argument, interactions with participants, and the prototype breast forms or services that are developed from this, will be iterative, in a cycle of learning and adaptation.The intention is to use a process of co-design -- involving the end user in the design of the product or service and returning to them for feedback at various stages in the design cycle -- ensuring that voices are heard and reflected, and user needs are at the heart of the product that is created.
