英文摘要
Bump Mark is an innovative, integrated, bio-reactive food expiry label designed to indicatethe conditions of food inside its packaging in real time. Originating from a student industrialdesign project, initially set out to create a product that would enable visually impairedconsumers to gain expiry information about their food, this novel label solution appeals to thewider mass of sighted end-users.Bump Mark is applicable to any fresh packaged food or drink product. It reflects the decayingsubstance inside the package in a tactile way mimicking the process by changing its ownconsistency. No direct chemical or physical connection exists between the jellified materialsinside the smart tag and the packaged product but their protein decaying structures are‘mapped and matched’ so that the label becomes an accurate tactile reflection of the productchanges inside the package as both are exposed to the same environmental conditions. With over 15m tonnes of good food thrown away in the UK each year, half of which comesfrom households, and while global food shortages are soaring, BM offers a safe, recyclable, biodegradable, cheap and effective solution to prevent needless food waste.
