Abrasive waterjet cutting and fire suppression systems are a potent tool for the modern fireservice. For certain fires types - difficult to tackle using traditional water or foam techniques -they can offer astonishingly rapid effects while simultaneously protecting firefighters fromsignificant hazards and minimising property & building damage.BHR is a leading innovator in the area of abrasive water jet cutting & fire suppressionsystems; technology developed by BHR is in service via technology licensing agreements inover 500 systems worldwide.Current systems are large. In Fire & Rescue Service applications they are generally integratedinto fire appliances, requiring substantial structural & bodywork modification. This increasescosts (actual, maintenance and downtime) and limits flexibility.Fire & Rescue Services in the UK are under considerable pressure to cut costs and improvesafety. Novel technologies are a key means for achieving these goals. BHR proposes todevelop CoolFire, a modular ultrahigh pressure abrasive cutting and fire suppression systemwith a number of unique advantages:Low cost, rapid installation;Low initial and through life costs;Easy, clean & safe abrasive handling;High reliability;BHR seeks funding to develop, test and demonstrate a prototype CoolFire system.
