We introduce new product and manufacturing concept for heating buildings. This product is based on the technologies existing in Industrial partner for fabrication of magnetic covers and expertise from University of Liverpool in manufacturing of thermal energy storage systems using phase-change materials (PCMs). Collaboration of project participants will open a market niche for covers withself-responding thermo-regulating ability, which reduce overall energy losses for the customers (both domestic and industrial) and smoothen energy consumption during high and low peak periods. The idea of the proposed project is based on the fundamental studies of energy capsules loaded with phase-change materials for storage and release of thermal energy developed under main ERC Consolidator grant "ENERCAPSULE". Different types of the capsule shell (polymeric, carbon-based, inorganic nanoparticles) loaded with nonflammable crystallohydrate PCMs were developed for effective storage of the thermal waste energy within the temperature range 20 - 200 0C and controlled energy transfer into/from energy container. The fundamental knowledge on encapsulation of the PCMs created a new platform for their application as thermal energy storage additives to different host materials. The final project goal is commercialisation of a new product for use in households, hospitals and other social, governmentaland industrial estates.
