Investigating school experiences of English trans youth: Working with young people to create best practice policy guidelines.

This mixed methods research project aims to investigate the current experiences of trans youth in English schools, building on previous research and policy to produce best practice guidelines for educational establishments in collaboration (through focus groups) with these young people. Results from curriculum analysis are used in combination with insights from these focus groups to consider why relevant existing laws and guidelines do not appear to be reflected in most actual school practice. The study additionally uses large-scale quantitative data to statistically analyse the contribution of various identified trans-exclusionary or protective factors to both the overall school experience and the wellbeing of trans young people.
