In recent years adaptation to climate change has seen an increasing level of political commitment and implementation. According to the Global Climate Legislation Study, more than 65 countries have put in place national frameworks for adaptation to climate change (Nachmany & Fankhauser, 2016). An important question for scientists, governments and the many actors involved in dealing with climate change is which effect implemented adaptation efforts have had, individually and collectively. Are we adapting to climate change and is the magnitude sufficient? Are there spatial differences in achieved adaptation levels? How can we even measure successful adaptation? And how can such an assessment inform policy making and implementation?
