I propose to explore different forms of silence in Ovid's Metamorphoses. I will investigate how those forms of silence are received by the modernreader. My aim is to create a new framework for approaching silence in ancient literature and its translation. The project will culminate in acreative performance, moving from the page to the voice and the visual.This project explores a threefold narrative: the translation of silence, the role of silence in transformation, and how textual engagement can enrichour understanding of the role of silence in modern society. This project will incorporate Latin, translation studies, linguistics and creativeperformance and is therefore hugely cross-disciplinary.
