My proposed doctoral thesis interrogates the interfacebetween antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and conflict. AMR is agrowing challenge across health systems globally. The ChiefMedical Officer has declared that antimicrobial resistance isthe greatest medical challenge of the 21st century. Conflictis suggested as a driver of resistance patterns due tobiological and social pressures including flight of medicalstaff, attacks on healthcare, heavy metal pollution andpopulation migration. With no robust studies in conflictregions, there are important gaps in the understanding ofdistribution and association with dynamics of conflict such asgeography, weaponry, intensity of violence and the nature ofwounds acquired in conflict.Existing narrow policy framings of AMR reflect a phenomenonpoorly translated across non-medical policy domains. Thenarratives of securitisation and biosurveillance dominatemuch of the public and political discourse surrounding AMR.Political doctrines charting the longstanding stigmatisation ofmigrants have been further cemented through the adoptionof discourses that employ medical concerns as central toappreciating the "threat" posed by displaced peoples fleeingconflict. Identifying how the stigmatisation of populations hasemerged from security narratives connects this issue towider work on communicable diseases, and provides a lenswith which to interrogate the social production of AMR as a'threat' to the global system. Using the lens of complexadaptive systems, a novel and illuminative model for AMR inconflict can be established
