The Surface properties of Particulate Materials and their Caking Behaviour

A problem of high industrial relevance is powder caking. During processing and storage time, powders are susceptible to undergo changes, that may result in an unmanageable powder. Depending on the nature of the particulate material (e.g. crystallinity, surface properties, particle size) and environmental influences (e.g. humidity, temperature, pressure), there are various origins for powder caking. This PhD project is designed to investigate powder caking by developing a characterization methodology. Aiming for a better understanding of origins, mechanisms and ultimately prevention of powder caking.
