DNA amplification techniques are essential for the study, detection and characterisation of a wide range of biological systems from Cancer to viruses. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) is the most commonly used techniques but isothermal amplification approaches have also found use in recent years. These approaches rely on primer sets and enzymes to amplify target DNA sequences, followed by readout, typically using a fluorescent DNA binding dye. While these techniques are powerful they also have drawbacks in a range of environments either due to the need for specialised equipment or over sensitivity and none specific amplification.Here we propose to develop a novel, platform technology that allows for the study and detection of DNA (or RNA) without the need for specialised equipment or DNA amplification. Here acetoxymethyl ether modified dyes will be combined with catalytic entities to yield fluorescent signals in the presence of target genetic material.
