"Be holy to me, for I the Lord am holy": An Investigation of Holiness in the Hebrew Bible

My project is a reconsideration of holiness across the Hebrew Bible and the Dead Sea Scrolls. There have been many significant and detailed studies of the 'pragmatics' of holiness, of the rituals and laws relating to holy people and holy things. I seek to understand 'what holiness is' at a conceptual level. My investigation is driven by in-depth textual analysis, first and foremost in terms of the root qds. Through close readings of specific passages, I attempt to understand 'holiness' within the historical and cultural context of the Hebrew Bible and Dead Sea Scrolls.
