The future of automobility is one of the biggest challenges facing today's urban stakeholders. Continualadvances are occurring around the humble automobile, changing the way in which we interact with andconceptualise it. While much research has been conducted on the ways in which people envisagemobility futures, this extant literature arguably focuses its attention too heavily on affluent, currentowners of private cars, with subsequent analysis reflecting this narrow perspective. Given the small butsignificant body of literature on the embodied practices involving cars, more research is needed on thetypes of journeys people make on other forms of transport, particularly public transport such as busesand trains. This research project will aim to address both these shortcomings through an ethnographicapproach, developing the fields of mobile ethnography to address how different generations move aboutin cities, and how this will affect their understandings and opinions of mobility futures.
