Ultracold polar molecules offer an exciting new platform for quantum science experiments, particularly relevant for studies of quantum many-body physics. This PhD project will use of a state-of-the-art techniques to produce a dense, controlled cloud of ultracold molecules. Starting with the construction of a buffer gas beam of CaF molecules, the molecules will be decelerated via laser slowing before being trapped in a magneto-optical trap. The molecules will then be transferred, via microwave pulses, into a single internal quantum state. At this point the cloud will be compressed using a new technique within a harmonic magnetic trap. The project will be designed to be remotely controllable, allowing for implementation of remote optimisation procedures for both the capturing and the cooling of the molecules.
