2005 Immunochemistry and Immunobiology Gordon Conference

DESCRIPTION (provided by applicant): This application seeks partial funding for a Gordon Research Conference on "Immunochemistry and Immunobiology", to be held at Queens College, Oxford UK, from August 7-12, 2005. This particular Gordon Research Conference has been in existence since 1966. It is recognized as one (1) of the premier international scientific congresses which brings together outstanding immunologists from a broad range of subdisciplines. A notable feature of the Immunochemistry and Immunobiology Gordon Research Conference is the fact that this is a forum at which the latest unpublished data are presented. Over the past several decades many of the most important discoveries in immunology have been presented first at this Gordon Conference. The second critical feature of the Gordon Conference is that the meeting is small and intimate, allowing junior investigators to interact with their more senior colleagues. In this regard, we are also committed for this coming meeting to attract more women and underrepresented minority scientists at all levels. The 2005 meeting will cover a spectrum of topics which will broadly cover critical areas of immunologic investigation. A primary goal of the meeting will be to stimulate discussion and interaction to help push immunological advances to the next level of sophistication. The three (3) major objectives of our meeting are: 1) To provide a critical and intensive overview of the current status of immunologic topics; 2) To bring together senior scientists and more junior colleagues in a congenial atmosphere of presentations as well as more informal poster discussions. It is anticipated that this environment will help to develop the investigative skills and enthusiasm of students and young investigators through their interactions with more established scientists; 3) To provide an opportunity for junior investigators to present platform talks. These talks will be selected from among the submitted abstracts.
