英文摘要
This PhD seeks to forge a new direction for charter studies, by understanding 'diversity' in a context of increasing homogenisation. It will shed new light on the evolution of common textual and material features by probing the question of whether scribes treated under-represented groups differently, even against a backdrop of standardisation. It therefore develops our understanding of whether increasing standardisation leads to a heightened sense of what was 'unusual' or 'abnormal' in particular social settings.
