Within the ORE sector, it is typical for developers to build numerical models of their devices in-house usingcommercial software such as OrcaFlex and then outsource the physical testing to facilities such as FloWave.There is an opportunity to streamline this work process and make the results more relevant to support numericalvalidation and experimental design. This project will specifically examine the modelling and testingof the station-keeping systems of floating ORE devices (e.g., FOWTs, tidal turbines, and WECs) since thenumerical model is challenging to replicate in the tank due to scaling restrictions. Therefore, by reducinguncertainty in the device behaviour, the LCOE can be reduced.The anticipated contribution to knowledge is a holistic understanding of the hydrodynamic factors involvedin representing different station-keeping systems in the tank environment. There are two key outputs:recommendations to improve the current design-and-test process so that numerical and physical testingprogrammes are more valuable, and a library of "tried and tested" station-keeping systems with quantifiedhydrodynamic responses to offer clients. As a result, FloWave can broaden its business model and betterserve the floating ORE industry.
