A 6-MONTH OPEN LABEL TRIAL OF MYCOPHENOLATE MOFETIL IN MYASTHENIA GRAVIS

This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The goal of this study is to further test the hypothesis that mycophenolate mofetil (2.5 g/d) in combination with prednisone (20 mg/d) provides a safe and tolerable method to control of signs and symptoms than prednisone alone in the initial management of myasthenia gravis (MG). A 6 month open-label extension will supply further information about the safety and tolerability of mycophenalate mofetil (MM) at doses ranging from 2.5-3 g/d, and will give some preliminary information about the frequency with which prednisone can be tapered or even discontinued in patients maintained on MM.
