英文摘要
This project will explore the multiplicity of the relationship between urban spaces and informality though a study of the everyday use of urban space by street vendors in Dar es Salaam (Dar). The PhD researcher will examine the complexity of informal street vending in Dar in collaboration with Equality for Growth, a Tanzanian rights-based NGO that aims to empower women working in the informal sector. Scholarship on gendered experiences of climate-related shocks by informal traders is non-existent. In doing so, the researcher will critically examine the Lefebvre's notion of the right to the city as being gender-blind. This studentship aims to advance academic understandings of gendered responses to climate-related shocks and adaptations by street vendors and implications for gender and climate-equitable urban policy.
