英文摘要
Atomic force microscopy and related scanning probe techniques will be used to study the architecture of the bacterial cell wall. How the cell wall evolves during growth and division will be studied by direct imaging during growth and through study of extracted cell walls. Complementary automated image analysis approaches will be developed and applied to quantify the images obtained. How these processes are interrupted by antibiotic action, and how the processes are modified in resistance, will also be explored.
