Interventions in the Long-Term Living Crisis: Intergenerational Patterns of Spatial Inequality

Where you are born and live can have significant consequences for your future life chances. Across generations, there are areas of England and Wales where the opportunities for better education, health or income have been persistently and stubbornly constrained for many years. The inequality between these areas and those of greatest opportunity is wide and growing, creating significant policy challenges for any progressive government. This project will integrate a range of data from the multiple censuses and the ONS Longitudinal study to trace changes in inequality over time, relating these to the success or failure of multiple policy regimes, interventions, and targeted initiatives. The project will explore both national and geographically disaggregated patterns alongside specific local or regional case studies.
