I first became interested in imaging during the image processing module of my degree. I was particularly intrigued by the acquisition of the images we were handling, which led me to take the biomedical imaging elective offered by my department. My Master's thesis also focuses on the visualisation of biological images, as I am creating a virtual reality interface to a microscope under the supervision of Dr Rowlands. During this project, I will be addressing some inefficiencies in Raman imaging, which is an information-rich form ofhyperspectral imaging. Examples of these problems include reducing sampling times and processing largeamounts of data, amongst others. This experience has further affirmed my love for imaging, cementing it as the area of research I would like to pursue in the future. My research experience has focused on signal processing, as well as artificial intelligence. In my third year, my group and I were chosen to undertake the most competitive project in our department. Under the supervision of Prof. Farina, we worked with Meta to demonstrate that a gated recurrent unit network could be trained to predict motor unit activation using a small number of electrodes on the skin.
