Continued physical activity is critical to the on-going wellbeing of a person, independent of age or ability. However, as people age, levels of physical activity tend to reduce, often linked to a variety of chronic illnesses but also due to several other non-health related issues, such as social isolation, which often further compound the wider health of the person. The ability to measure levels of activity and the ability to detect changes in behaviour; both frequency and nature of movement; would provide critical information to family and health professionals over the on-going wellbeing of the person. This proposal will investigate the capability of utilising household technologies, such as microphones and wireless transmitters, and artificial intelligence to detect and track the movement of individuals with a view to early prediction and continuous monitoring of physical illness.
