The aim of this project is to develop a transition-metal-free approach to nucleophilic amination by developing an easily handled azanide surrogate reagent compatible with the radical-nucleophilic substitution chain mechanism. To realise this aim, we must design an optimal azanide surrogate reagent and determine "what properties and conditions are essential for experimental reaction performance?".To maximise the impact of the developed reagent, we must ascertain "which electrophiles are compatible with this reagent?", "What are the limitations of this approach?".Finally, by performing industrial case studies we will question "how does this approach compare with established industrial processes?", "What medicines can we manufacture in a more sustainable fashion?".This project will primarily seek to establish experimental proof of concept and lies in two EPSRC research themes: 'Manufacturing the future' and 'Physical sciences'. Within these themes, this work is relevant to two major EPSRC research areas: 'Synthetic Organic Chemistry' and 'Chemical Reaction Dynamics and Mechanisms'.
