Program administration is centralized in the Core to promote synergistic interaction between the clinical and laboratory projects, to ensure that clinical data are analyzed in a timely and appropriate manner, and to provide strong centralized leadership for the program. As described in the Program Narrative (Organization and Administrative Structure), Dr. Houghton, the Program Director, has primary responsibility for the overall conduct of this Program Project, including all components of the Core. Dr. Victor Santana, the Co-Director, will assist in administering the Program, specifically in coordinating clinical data analysis, and in coordinating regular meetings for presentation of progress on clinical aspects of the Program. Drs.Houghton and Santana will have centralized secretarial support and clinical data managers (supported in Core A), who will perform key functions related to data storage and retrieval. Research workshops and working conferences to review scientific progress in clinical and laboratory research projects are led by Drs.Houghton and Santana at weekly intervals. Core performance and utilization are reviewed every four months. External and Internal advisory committees have been established to assist us in reviewing progress and advise us on conduct of specific experimental approaches and directions of the research.
