TECHNOLOGY FOR COMPREHENSIVE ANALYSIS OF GLUCONEOGENESIS IN PATIENTS

This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. The overall goal is to take advantage of the NMR transparency of deuterium and carbon 13, plus the high information yield to develop new tools to probe metabolism in animal models and in human subjects. Validation studies in isolated livers, mathematical simulations to assist in experimental design, improved probe design to optimize sensitivity, automated spectral analysis and new tracer labeling patterns to probe specific pathways are all under development. The automated solution phase synthesizer is now routinely used for processing of plasma samples.
