This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. Dr. Howell's group has found by microarray analysis that unique exosomal markers are over-expressed in cisplatin (DDP) resistant cells. Biochemical analysis of purified exosomes showed that resistant cells release exosomes that are significantly enriched in putative efflux transporters of DDP. The exosomes from DDP resistant cells also accumulate higher levels of DDP, raising the possibility that they maight be instrumental in the export of the drug from resistant cells (resistant cells are accumulation defective.)
