This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. The Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DAS) diet has been shown to significantly lower blood pressure (BP) in participants with both normal and mildly elevated blood pressure. However, it is unclear whether DASH diet can be an important adjunctive tool in management of hypertension in people with chronic kidney diseases. Current study utilizes the techniques of 24-hr ambulatory BP monitoring and microneurography to determine if DASH low-sodium diet is effective in blood pressure reduction in patients with mild to moderate chronic kidney disease, and to determine the impact of DASH-low sodium diet on sympathetic nervous system and on baroreceptor function.
