TUMORHEAD PROTEIN NUCLEAR BODIES IN PROLIFERATION OF ECTODERM

This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. This project examines the nuclear organization of the Tumorhead (TH) protein in embryonic blastomeres and the mechanism by which it accumulates in nuclear bodies. We will determine whether this nuclear acucmulation is responsible for withdrawal of ectodermal cells from the cell cycle as well as for their subsequent differentiation in response to growth factors. We will use x-ray tomography to analyze the 3-D structural organization of these TH containing nuclear bodies and their interactions with other nuclear bodies and/or chromosomes. This information, in conjunction with our molecular and cellular studies, will help determine how TH regulates the cell cycle.
