This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The Purpose of this study is to define the relationship b/w anemia (low red blood cells in the blood) and iron absorption in a form of anemia which occurs in children and adults with chronic disease. A protein (naturally occuring substance) was recently described which may regulate the body's ability to absorb and use iron.
