This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. Primary Objective: The primary goal of this proposed phase II clinical trial is to evaluate the clinical effectiveness of inhaled nitric oxide for the treatment of acute vaso-occlusive pain crisis in pediatric patients with sickle cell disease. The primary outcome measure for this study is change in pain score from baseline to 16 hours, which will be assessed using a 10cm visual analog scale (VAS).
