英文摘要
This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. Kidney stone formation is a common medical problem. The majority of stones are composed of calcium and oxalate. The excretion of oxalate into urine is necessary for such stones to develop. A significant amount of the oxalate in urine is derived from dietary sources. The aim of this study is to develop a protocol to assess the following in calcium oxalate stone formers and normal subjects: (i) gastrointestinal oxalate absorption; (ii) the amount of oxalate excreted in urine relative to creatinine after varying dietary oxalate doses; (iii) the amount of fatty acid oxidation that occurs in the body after the dose. This protocol should assist in identifying differences between these two groups which will help in the future evaluation of calcium oxalate stone formers.
