This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. The volume dependent form of hypertension is most commonly observed in patients who are black, obese, elderly or have Type 2 diabetes. The goal of this study is to measure the amount of a phosphorylated protein in the blood or excreted in the urine with the hope of characterizing patients according to the primary form of hypertension from which they suffer. Also, a more tailored pharmacologic treatment plan can be created for each patient.
